Quiznos is an American franchised fast-food restaurant brand based in Denver, Colorado, specializing in offering toasted submarine sandwiches. It was founded in 1981, growing to nearly 5,000 restaurants. Quiznos was the second-largest submarine sandwich shop chain in North America, behind Subway at its peak.

Complete redesign of Quiznos.com.

SOLUTION

Reimagining the website of the second-largest submarine sandwich shop chain in North America was a big opportunity.  I knew immediately that we would build something exciting and next level for the brand. Before we got ahead of ourselves, we needed to understand the business objectives and constraints fully. We flew to Denver to the corporate headquarters to fully assess what success looked like for Quiznos’ stakeholders and gather a full inventory of what legacy content and features needed to be kept in the new site.  I then did extensive competitive research to learn what other fast-food and fast-casual chains were doing wrong and right.  To gain further insight, user research was conducted, and personas were generated.  Armed with this learning, I and the entire team (tech, creative, and production) had multiple meetings to explore options and opportunities to create an innovative platform.  As always, the primary goal was to help increase our clients’ brand’s measurable commercial success.  This meant driving more online ordering through the site.  To accomplish this, we created a smart and easy-to-use ordering experience, using technology such as geolocation to find the closest Quiznos auto-magically.  We brought to the forefront deals and promotions to drive conversion. An occasional takeover of the site revealed a countdown to lunch or dinner calling the user to action.  In addition, we wanted to deliver a delightful experience.  The homepage is a flexible grid system that has playful cells inviting interaction.  We even created a special section called Lunch Break with original videos and a game for pure timewasting fun.

RESULTS

Quiznos was ecstatic with the creative direction and innovative features from the beginning. They were pleased with the production process.  We delivered a robust technological solution with an easy-to-use CMS that allowed for the Quiznos team to deliver fresh content and promotions with minimal effort.
